I started “Johnsaurus” to show my work to the world. I started off with 50 shirts and it was a stegosaurus with a glow in the dark print, keep this in mind I had no experience in graphic design or printing at this time. So sizes large, small, and Extra Large had a nasty side print because of the seam. I didn’t care anyway, I was just excited to see something I’ve made come alive. I told a few of my friends that I’m starting a small clothing company and sold a few shirts to them and they came up with a funny idea to wear it at the same time on the first day of school. This started a awareness and questions being asked. From there, I’ve gained a small following and I made a facebook page for it, and from there on the first day it went from 13 likes to 100 likes! It literally kept growing and I was jumping around and swinging my arms around in the air. over 100 likes is a huge accomplishment to me back then. I opened a online shop after that and I started hustlin through the internet. I get emails from independent t shirt blogs that want to do sales, interviews, or blog about any upcoming new releases. Eventually, I received orders from different Countries like Australia, Japan, United Kingdom, and many more! It really had me wondering where on earth did they hear about my tiny brand, y’know? What I never thought is that I’ve gained alot of love around supporting me along the way. What really surprised me was that I ended up going on Vans Warped Tour 2 years in a row! Just meeting people in person, seeing their reaction when they purchase an item, and getting asked on whats my brand about and how it started.
Getting my brand in the music industry was something I really wanted to get into, I had Rou from Enter Shikari digging my clothes, seeing live photos of We Are Defiance, Boldly We Rise, Defender on stage with my brand and many others. I’ve had the pleasure to endorse a couple of bands out there and one of them made a music video rockin my shirt!
Shortly after, I grew out of the scenic theme and I lost interests in my brand. I basically developed a mature taste of clothing now and at the same time, I was interning for Arkaik Clothing and it was the closest thing to get a taste of the in-house Graphic Designer lifestyle. Working for them was a great experience, especially working with Jordan Abidor and his crazy ideas and positive mental attitude. He gave me a really great opportunity to developed a full summer line for PMA Threads and work with well known bands on collabs. Thats when I really knew what I really wanted to do for a living. I forgot that my true dream job is be a Graphic Designer and a Photographer for the music or clothing industry. Maybe I’ll start another brand who knows? Seriously, Its been a really great 2 years for the brand and I really want to give a huge thanks to everyone that supported me and get me where I am today. - From the bottom of my heart.
